The D800E is optimized for photographers that are looking to get the maximum sharpness out of their NEF raw files. Shooters that rely predominantly on capturing JPEGs may want to choose the D800 camera instead.
To achieve maximum sharpness in NEF files, the special low-pass filter in the D800E is not configured with anti-aliasing properties.
